Natasja Hornby – Shawl Construction

In this workshop we will go deeper into some of the popular scarf shapes by knitting different mini shawls and learning about the construction and the advantages of each shape. We start with the classic ’top-down’ triangle, where we will have a look at the ‘garter-tab’ structure. After that, we will try out various of the popular and modern scarf shapes (including the asymmetrical triangle and sickle shape) and different ways to construct these shapes.

The different directions from which you can start the shawl (from top to bottom, from bottom to top, from the middle to the outside) will be discussed. Attention is also paid to how you can add color and different stitch patterns to shape you chose.

At the end of the workshop you will have learned the following:

  • Basic design of a shawl
  • How to add a stitch pattern to a basic shape
  • How you can go one step further from the basic principles
  • Finish

Participants need to know how to set up stitches, knit and purl and apply simple increases and decreases.
