Johan Schneiders – Knitting Colored Cables

For the adventurous knitters: intarsia cables!

Give color to any desired cable pattern with this interesting technique.

Whether you go for a rainbow of neon or a different shade of gray, with intarsia cables you emphasize the texture of your knitting.

In this workshop you will learn all the techniques needed to knit intarsia cables. We are assuming that you can already knit simple cables in one color and know how to read a simple knitting chart. Using a small, simple pattern, we knit a test piece in which we are going to use more and more techniques, until we have had all possible options (about four). You will then be a master cable-knitter (certificate not included).

During the workshop I will demonstrate with large knitting needles and thick yarn.

Bonus: if there is time left, I will demonstrate techniques for casting on and casting off stitches in two colors; this way you get the neat edge to your project with intarsia cables.
Bonus: for those interested, there will be several blank cable charts to color in for inspiration.

You have to master the following techniques:

  • Cast on stitches
  • knit
  • purl
  • simple cable knitting (2-2 “rope cable” is sufficient)
  • read a simple knitting chart (diagrams for cables not required: diagrams for coloring work are sufficient)
  • cast off stitches.

During this workshop we will knit a test piece; With the knowledge you have gained, you can then start working on a project of your choice.
