The Biggest Knitting and Crocheting event in Holland

Johan Schneiders – Knitting Colored Cables

For the adventurous knitters: intarsia cables!

Give color to any desired cable pattern with this interesting technique.

Whether you go for a rainbow of neon or a different shade of gray, with intarsia cables you emphasize the texture of your knitting.

In this workshop you will learn all the techniques needed to knit intarsia cables. We assume that you can already knit simple cables in one color and know how to read a simple knitting chart. Using a small, simple pattern, we knit a test piece that we use more and more techniques, until we have had all possible situations (about four). You are then master cable breeder (certificate not included).

During the workshop I demonstrate with large knitting needles and thick yarn.

Bonus: when we have time left, I demonstrate techniques for setting up and setting off stitches in two colors; this way you give a neat edge to your project with intarsia cables.
Bonus: for those who like it, there are several blank cable charts to color in for inspiration.

You have to master the following techniques:

  • Cast on stitches
  • knit right
  • purl
  • simple cable knitting (2-2 “rope cable” is sufficient)
  • read a simple knitting chart (diagrams for cables not required: diagrams for coloring work are sufficient)
  • cast off stitches.

During this workshop we will knit a test piece; With the knowledge you have gained, you can then start working on a project of your choice.
