Carla Meijsen – Brioche for Beginners

The Brioche stitch, traditionally known in the Netherlands as the ‘Patent Stitch’ (‘patentsteek’), is very popular, partly thanks to Nancy Marchant, the Queen of Brioche.
She gave new life to the Brioche Stitch by publishing a series of books entirely devoted to this subject. The many stitch combinations give great results, which are often also two-sided.

Knitters who are ready for a new challenge will certainly find it in the unlimited possibilities of the Brioche stitch. But that does not happen automatically….

In the workshop I cover the basic principles of the Brioche Stitch and related stitches such as the Fisherman’s rib. By gaining insight into the specific properties of these stab variations, you will understand more about the basic principles, making it easier to see through the more complex structures and to master them.

We also practice casting on with the Italian method, which is perfect for Brioche. Once you have also practiced with two colors and making decreases and increases, you are ready for the more exciting work, making the two-sided leaf motifs.

Provided there is enough time, we will also try the Twigg stitch and/or a cable in Brioche.

Here you can read all about Carla Meijsen.
