Donna Smith – A brief History of Knitting in Shetland

Donna Smith is a textile designer and she lives and works in Shetland (Scotland).

She is very interested in traditional knitting techniques used in Shetland and has a huge passion for the preservation of these skills. She learned to knit at a young age and grew up surrounded by knitters, as many people from Shetland. She is inspired by the island in the Atlantic Ocean.

Donna talks about her origins, about Shetland and gives a brief look at the history of knitting in Shetland and its importance to the islands.
In addition she will speak about some of her own designs and the inspiration behind them.
